Getting Started

Because Open Focus training involves a natural process of paying attention in everyday life to reduce and enhance well being, it requires only your own willingness and a good coach.  However, individual needs often dictate the best ways in which each of us learn.  It is for this reason, that Open Focus training is offered to both individuals and groups of people at our Centre or at their locations, over the phone or though home practice.  The training is individualized so that people at all levels of interest and skill development may learn in their own ways, at their own pace.

Personal Office Consultation
Dr. Fehmi will meet personally, by appointment, with those desiring to discuss their individual needs and how Open Focus may be used to meet those needs,  He will discuss each person’s physical, emotional and behavioral symptoms, garner a personal history, survey current lifestyle choices, all in order to get an accurate picture of the whole person.  The goal of a consultation is to design the ideal Open Focus training program for each individual.  Every client will leave with a complimentary Open Focus CD designed for their level of training.

How Long Will It Take to See Improvement?
There is no general rule as to the number of sessions required for symptom remission.  We feel it is best to attempt to answer this only after working with you for a reasonable period of time.  Each client responds differently.  Typically, our clients are seen on a twice-weekly basis.  You and your therapist will decide the best course of treatment.  Our goal here at the Centre is to extend the visits at a rate which fosters optimum maintenance of skills and transfer of training to daily life situations.  Home Practice is required to gain maximum benefit from the training program.  If you experience any difficulty with the at-home practice, you can explore those problems during your office sessions.

Personal On-Site Training
Anyone interested in personal on-site training is encouraged to call our office to discuss this option.

Corporate Training
Numerous national studies have been conducted over the years on the impact of stress and illness upon corporate financial health and productivity.  As a result, corporations increasingly provide stress management programs to their employees.Additionally, with the current economic need to downsize, corporations have become equally concerned with productivity, creativity, morale and management skills.  This has led to a growth in corporate dollars spent for leadership and team building programs for their employees.

It has been out of these demands that as a leader in the field, Dr. Fehmi has been asked to provide in-house corporate training workshops for middle and upper management.  Using the Open Focus techniques, Dr. Fehmi has developed a unique management program which teaches managers and employees how to reduce stress on the job, become team players and evolve into leaders.

The Open Focus technique differentiates itself from other techniques in that it goes to the next level.  Other techniques are exogenous in that they show you how to recognize stress, provide role playing teaming exercises, and define what a leader is.  The Open Focus technique is endogenous because it provides you with a practical method for actually transferring stress reduction, teaming and leadership skills to everyday situations.

Open Focus workshops conducted by Dr. Fehmi are a combined menu of lecture, group discussion and the practicing of Open Focus exercises.  They are designed for a format that may span a day, a weekend or a week or more, depending on the need.  They may be conducted at our centre or be organized off-site for interested management and their employees. The lecture portion included Dr. Fehmi’s description of how his clinical, teaching and research experience led him to discover the important role attention plays in organizing our physical, emotional and mental experiences.  He also discusses the various styles of attention and their unique impact on us.  He includes a description of how to manipulate our attention to bring us toward optimum functioning in every walk of life.  These presentations are accompanied by Power Point Presentations.

The group discussion includes questions and answers, as well as individual reactions to the Open Focus exercises which punctuate the workshops.  These discussions very much reflect the unique composition of each group and provide a dynamic way of learning. The Open Focus practice portions of the workshop are conducted by Dr. Fehmi and are interspersed throughout the training program at regular intervals.Participants should leave these workshops with a body of knowledge, a set of skills, Open Focus tapes to practice with at home and a direct experience of Open Focus and consequent well being.
